Fix it before the hike. Ruined gear is a slow death you already agreed to.

Clothes

Sewing kits save jackets and bags. Duct tape is a religion. Don't walk inland in rags because you were busy looting a third pistol.

A jammed gun is a stick. Clean it. Don't save the last rag for a fashion emergency.
